William Carlos Williams had a unique combination of talents, being both a pediatrician and a poet. To pay tribute to his wide range of poetry, let me share two very different poems he wrote. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
He also wrote: “It is difficult to get the news from poems, yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there.”
